The typical home seller believes the spring real estate market is the most lucrative time to sell a home. While the spring season is definitely the most popular, there are many advantages to selling and buying a home during the fall months.

There are still many buyers in the market searching for their perfect home. After the manic pace of the last spring market, which featured bidding wars, and stiff competition, many buyers were left frustrated and disheartened.

With incredibly low interest rates, rising prices and rising rents in most areas, buyers are still looking to buy. Plus, with proper planning, homeownership can be one of the most reliable long-term investments one can make, and one of the most satisfying.

For home sellers, there is less competition than the spring market and if your home is in good condition and priced appropriately, it shouldn’t take long to sell your property. According to the National Association of Realtors, 40 percent of homes sold in July were on the market for less than a month.

NAR also reports that even the most distressed housing markets in the nation are back to experiencing a full recovery, enabling homeowners to take advantage of renewed equity and placing them in a better position to put their home on the market.

Overall, the fall season presents win-win opportunities for both buyers and sellers and just because the days are cooler, doesn’t mean that the real estate market is too. Look to the graph for the area that interests you most to see the current level of activity. Days on market, average sales price and more are reported here.
